Dr. Bauer has served on several local and national committees in leadership positions. She successfully secured the Commission on Cancer re-accreditation of two community cancer centers while in Texas. She has led interdisciplinary teams in the care of inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, and pelvic floor disease. Most recently she was appointed to the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeon’s Steering Committee for Pelvic Floor Disorders.

Biography

Dr. Bauer is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgeons and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She is an expert in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus.

Dr. Bauer graduated from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia and attended Medical College of Pennsylvania before completing medical school and surgical residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch. She completed colorectal surgery fellowship at The University of Texas Health Sciences in Houston.

Prior to her arrival, Dr. Bauer served as Associate Professor of Surgery on faculty at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Permian Basin, and was Chief of The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Bauer also served as the Clerkship Director for 3rd and 4th year medical student and teaching faculty to Texas Tech Surgical Residents. She received numerous awards for teaching and clinical care to include the Dean’s Innovation Award, induction to the Gold Humanism Honor Society, resident, and student’s choice awards for excellence in teaching. In addition, Dr. Bauer has been recognized by her peers as a Texas Super Doctor in her field since 2013.

Her accomplishments include authorship of numerous book chapters and academic papers, presentations at national meetings on minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, surgical quality outcome, enhanced recovery after colorectal surgery, and pelvic floor reconstruction and restoration of function.

Dr. Bauer believes in personalized care that is patient-centered and unique to each individual. While colorectal conditions can be embarrassing and anxiety provoking, Dr. Bauer is committed to creating a professional atmosphere of comfort and support while working with her patients on a successful treatment plan to achieve well-being and improved quality of life.
