Cancer-Fighting Technology

For people with cancer, access to the latest treatments can make all the difference. We're committed to providing the people of Cape May County with the best cancer treatment technology available.

TrueBeam Linear Accelerator

We're the only cancer center in Cape May County to offer this innovative technology. It delivers powerful radiation treatments with pinpoint precision.

TrueBeam™ radiation therapy

  • RapidArc™ Radiotherapy Technology. This technique increases the accuracy of targeted radiation, which allows for faster treatment times and minimizes the chance of adversely affecting healthy tissue.
  • Gated RapidArc. This is a relatively new approach that compensates for tumor motion during treatment. This means we can choose the best form of treatment for each patient.
  • Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). We're one of the few hospitals in Cape May County to have this technology. It delivers precise radiation therapy to tumors anywhere in the body—often in 10-15 minute treatments instead of 45 minutes or longer using other radiation therapy techniques. SBRT is commonly used to treat lung cancer and prostate cancer. At Cape Regional, a course of SBRT for lung cancer can typically be completed in 3 treatments and a course of SBRT for prostate cancer can be completed in 5 treatments.
  • Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). This is a fully robotic imaging system that allows oncologists to pinpoint tumors within the body before delivering cancer treatment.
  • Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). This computer-driven technology allows for precise radiation delivery, which helps protect surrounding organs and tissues during cancer treatment.
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). This therapy delivers a single, high dose of radiation to a precise area of the brain to treat tumors there.

Delivering radiotherapy using TrueBeam leads to fewer hot spots, fewer side effects and less time in treatment compared with using the cyberknife. Learn more about TrueBeam on our Radiation Therapy page.
